My first string quartet responds to the Thomas Hardy poem Afterwards and was written for and with the Ligeti Quartet and Lotte Betts-Dean (there is an optional mezzo-soprano part).
This quartet is a sister piece to my song cycle for guitar and mezzo-soprano Elegies for Emma and is part of a larger Thomas Hardy project that includes arrangements of Hardy songs from across the 20th Century. An album of this music called 'The Past & I: 100 Years of Thomas Hardy' was released in July 2024 with Delphian Records.
