These duets make up a series of short studies based on pictures held in the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery where the pieces were written. They were written at a time that I was obsessed with Bartok's fantastic 44 Duos for Violin - pristine musical arguments in miniature form brimming with personality.
Each of my pieces tries to capture a mood and/or a sense of narrative from specific pictures in as little time as possible – the chosen pictures evoked a straightforward but powerful response from first viewing and where possible I tried to limit my selection to small pictures often overlooked in a gallery setting.
